News Highlights

  • The Power of Focus: Building Information

At its user conference this week in Las Vegas, Information Builders unveiled a revamped version of its WebFOCUS reporting suite, showcased a new process-driven alerting capability, and touted an improved WebFOCUS Excel integration facility, to boot. Not bad for a week in Sin City; and at Tony Soprano's favorite Vegas stomping ground (Caesar's Palace). [more]

  • Still Another Data Warehouse Appliance Is Coming!

At last week's TDWI World Conference in Boston, DW appliance player Dataupia Corp., an upstart company with anything but an upstart management team, announced its own long-awaited appliance entry. Like its DW appliance kith, Dataupia's Satori Server 12000 boasts integrated server, storage, and DW software. Unlike those other offerings, however, Satori Server purports to be a 2.0 appliance, complete with canned connectivity and a transparent use model. [more]

  • Cognos Acquisitions Bear Fruit

Last week was a busy one for Cognos, which announced the first fruit of its acquisition of the former Celequest Corp., namely its Cognos Now! Search appliance; as well as an updated version of its Cognos Controller financial performance management tool. Call it a case of two acquisitions bearing fruit: Controller is an outgrowth of another, albeit more distant Cognos purchase. [more]

  • TDWI Radio News: Oco's Custom-Built Suite

In a realm increasingly dominated by large-scale acquisitions and overall consolidation, a (relatively) new crop of vendors offers alternatives to intelligence-hungry customers. Oco, Inc., is one such vendor. With a technology stack built from scratch, Oco is starting to scratch the surface of this $14 billion industry. Tune into this TDWI Radio News interview to hear the company's chairman and chief technology officer explain the Oco way. Dunkin' Donuts apparently liked what they saw. [more]

  • TDWI Webinar: The Convergence of BI and SOA

Some disciplines go together like peanut butter and jelly. One could argue that business intelligence (BI) and the service-oriented architecture (SOA) fit this bill. In this Webinar, stalwart TDWI faculty member Robert Abate explains how BI and SOA are converging. Register now; don't wait for the movie. [more]

  • White Paper: Business Intelligence, à la SAS Institute

Dr. Goodnight owns SAS Institute, quite literally. That's decidedly noteworthy in light of the BI giant's size and market prevalence. By some metrics, SAS is the single biggest BI vendor on earth. What's up with all that? Check out this white paper for an overview of the SAS Enterprise Intelligence Platform. [more]
