Information Builders CEO Gerry Cohen is in a very select club. Along with Microsoft's Bill Gates, Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, and SAS chief Jim Goodnight, Cohen is still at the helm-or otherwise intimately involved with the operation-of a software company he helped found in the 1970s. To listen to many of Teradata's competitors tell it, the data warehousing giant has had its time in the limelight. It's time for Teradata to step aside, or be elbowed aside, by The Next Big Thing: the data warehousing appliance. Teradata officials, not surprisingly, don't agree with this claim. Gartner Says: Organizations Flying Blind When It Comes to Implementing BI
You've often thought it, but it took consultancy Gartner Inc. to confirm it: not every organization has a coherent business intelligence (BI) implementation strategy. More to the point, Gartner researchers say, many organizations will continue to squander the lion's share (at least 70 percent) of their BI budgets to resolve a passel of familiar people, process, and governance issues.
